46 years later…Cyprus

My parents always said that one of their favorite places we lived in was Cyprus and not just because I was born there😊 I have wanted to go see my birthplace for years but finally had the chance last month. Flying over it for the first time, looking at the crystal blue water and seeing the sloping fields and cloudless sky I knew I was home. Now, to clarify, my parents are from the US so I don’t actually have any biological ties to being a Cypriot but I can tell you that I could feel the pull in my heart that this island would always be a special place to me.

Undeniably my favorite places on earth consisy of warm water and sandy beaches but something about Cyprus has catapulted it to the top of my list next to Cozumel (if you know me then you know Coz is my home away from home).

My first view of the Sea from our hotel and I was hooked! I was excited to take our day tour into Nicosia, the city I was born. We were able to spend half of the day exploring the archeological museum and sites and then crossed into the Turkish side. I love to cook and so was excited to be able to get cumin and paprika with an aroma that you can only find in that part of the world. If you have never had the chance to visit a true spice market you are missing our. Dubai is probably one of my favorites!

This visit started my addiction to Halloumi cheese😊 if you have never had this and you love cheese you owe it yourself to experience this phenomenal epicurean  delight! It has become a staple in my kitchen now…my daughter calls it the squeaky white meat…who needs chicken!

I definitely plan on going back soon to stay longer on the island…eat Halloumi, spend hours in the warm ocean, explore the archeological ruins and breathe the salty Sea air😊

Welcome home…
