I had an amazing trip in Munich. I went for work but was able to squeeze in 2.5 days to play in addition to a great time with my coworkers.
I stayed at the Hotel Concorde on a recommendation from a GLT in the 35+ group. It’s location is perfect especially for a first time visitor.
My flight arrived at 7:30am and since I knew I would be tired after the flight (I did manage to get about 3.5 hours sleep thanks to United Polaris)
I paid for the night before so I could check in, shower and take a little nap. I set an alarm and by 1:00pm I was exploring the city. I highly recommend the Deutsches Museum (industry and tech).
My trick to getting adjusted to the time zone is to take a sights and sips night tour the first night. I had a fabulous guide, Sonya with City Unscripted. We walked through the old town for about 2 hours and decided to stop for a beer in an Irish Pub. Next thing you know it’s been 2 hours of dancing and making new friends.
In the morning I had another City Unscripted tour scheduled. Anna and I walked everywhere and saw every church in the area (I love old churches). She left me at Viktualienmarkt where I shopped and wandered for about an hour.
I stopped for Münchner Schnitzel at HeimWork (omg was this good) and then headed out of the city to stay in at the Forsthaus Wörnbrunn nestled in the forest in Grünwald, near(ish) to my office. I had dinner there one night and it was amazing.
After a busy week at work, I headed back to the city for one last night. I met up again with Sonya to go to the Opera to see The Marriage of Figaro.
It was a whirlwind of adventure but a fabulous way to introduce me to Munich. I can’t wait to go back!
Happy travels!
