I have been wanting to go snowshoeing for a few years so was excited when my friend Kams asked it I wanted to attend a beginner into class at REI and then go up to the mountains. It was a pretty good class but since I am not a member it was going to be $52 to rent vs $56 on Amazon to buy (I will post the link below), and they are fantastic for a beginner. I also bought a pair of ski pants since I am not a winter person lol so did not have any. I have way more swimsuits that anything winter related.
It was a beautiful day in the PNW as we drove up to Snoqualmie Pass. We went to Lake Keechelus, a lake I have driven by many times on my way over the mountains but I have never actually been to it. It had rained the day before so the snow was a little crunchy but didn’t deter us at all. We did a practice run to get me comfortable and ended at this cool entrance to the abandoned Snoqualmie railroad tunnel.
After that I knew I was ready so we weaved our way through the little kids sledding to get to the trail-head. I was just hoping I would not fall over, and I managed to stay upright all day thankfully. We traveled down the trail until we could see the lake where we went down the hill to the very edge of the lake and then followed it along the shore before heading back up the hill to get the best view. The lake was crystal clear, the sky was a deep blue and the sun was shining. We climbed up a small rock formation for a beautiful panoramic view. It could not have been a more perfect day.
We got in about 5 miles of snowshoeing and burned about 800 calories. I love when you can make exercise fun!
We are heading out again in a few weeks to the Wenatchee Crest and I will make sure to let you guys know what I think on my second try. But I am pretty sure I am going to love it just as much!
Happy Travels
