Every time we’re in Cozumel, we make it our mission to chase down the island’s best tacos—whether it’s joining a sizzling taco tour or stumbling upon a hidden local gem far off the beaten path.
5. Tortillería La Ejidal — not exactly a taco stop, but an absolute must for anyone who wants to witness the heart of Cozumel’s culinary rhythm. Step inside and watch as warm, golden tortillas roll off the presses by the hundreds, filling the air with the comforting aroma of freshly ground corn — the foundation of nearly every taco on the island.

4. Los Otates — a true local favorite where the air hums with the scent of sizzling meat and lime. Here, I indulged in tender Arrachera, perfectly charred and bursting with flavor, and my go-to favorite, Lengua — melt-in-your-mouth beef tongue so rich and savory it could convert even the most hesitant diner into a believer.

3. El Chino Marinero — just a short, breezy stroll from the town square, this laid-back spot serves up some of the most flavorful seafood tacos on the island. Don’t miss the Pulpo en su Tinta, tender octopus simmered in its own rich, inky sauce, or the Pollo Empanizado, golden and crispy with a satisfying crunch. It’s the kind of place where every bite tastes like a seaside secret worth savoring.

2. Las Tapatías de Cozumel — a vibrant, color-splashed eatery that practically buzzes with energy and the irresistible aroma of slow-simmered spices. The Birria tacos here are an absolute must: tender, juicy meat tucked into crispy, golden tortillas, ready to be dipped into a rich, savory consommé that bursts with flavor in every bite.

1. Taquería El Mexicano — a no-frills local gem where the grill crackles, the salsas pack a punch, and the flavors speak for themselves. The Campechano stole my heart — a glorious mix of beef seared in pork fat and spiced chorizo, creating a smoky, savory masterpiece that’s pure taco bliss.
