One of my favorite things about interviewing independent authors is discovering the stories behind the stories. Every writer has a different journey, a unique imagination, and a reason for putting pen to paper. Sometimes the most interesting part of our conversation isn’t even about the book itself!
Recently, I had the pleasure of chatting with four talented authors whose writing takes readers in very different directions. From emotional storytelling and fantasy to modern-day heroism and psychological suspense, there’s a little something for everyone.

Kel Sprague: Finding Healing Through Storytelling
Stories have an incredible ability to help us understand emotions, navigate difficult experiences, and see the world through a different lens.
Kel Sprague brings that philosophy to her writing, creating stories that explore emotional healing and the challenges we face. Her Sidewalk Magic series offers young readers an opportunity to connect with meaningful themes through storytelling.
Our conversation explored the inspiration behind her books and the importance of stories that do more than entertain.
Taneasha Francis: Where Imagination Takes Over
Have you ever wondered whether authors know exactly where their stories are going when they begin writing? As it turns out, characters sometimes have plans of their own!
Taneasha Francis, author of The Ravens Den series, joined me to discuss her writing journey, the world she’s created, and some of the surprises she encountered along the way.
One of the things I love asking authors is whether anything unexpected happened while they were writing. Taneasha’s experience is a reminder that even the person creating the story doesn’t always know what’s coming next.

Anna P. Murray: What Does It Mean to Be a Hero Today?
When we think of heroes, we often imagine extraordinary people doing extraordinary things. But what about the courage it takes to navigate everyday life?
I had a fascinating conversation with Anna P. Murray, author of Greedy Heart and The Singer of Fates, about courage, heroism, and what those ideas mean in today’s world.
With a background in technology and a passion for storytelling, Anna brings an interesting perspective to her writing. Our discussion went beyond the pages of her books and into questions about the choices we make and the courage we find within ourselves.
Candace Nicole: When Characters Refuse to Stay Quiet
Some writers dream up characters. Others apparently have characters who refuse to leave them alone!
Candace Nicole writes both romance and psychological thrillers, but she’s increasingly drawn to stories where happily ever after might come with a twist.
During our conversation, Candace shared how her characters sometimes seem to have minds of their own. One even started talking to her while she was driving, prompting her to rethink part of a story!
We also talked about her Roots series, her evolving writing interests, and why she enjoys exploring the darker, more unpredictable side of storytelling.

Your Next Favorite Author Might Be One You Haven’t Heard of Yet
That’s one of the reasons I love featuring independent authors. There are so many wonderful stories waiting to be discovered, and sometimes all it takes is a conversation to make you curious enough to pick up a book.
Whether you’re drawn to heartfelt stories, imaginative worlds, thought-provoking fiction, or a psychological thriller that keeps you guessing, I hope one of these conversations inspires your next read.
And if you enjoy discovering new authors as much as I do, be sure to check out the full interviews. You never know whose book might end up on your nightstand next!
